Lucius miles
Organizing Director
Lucius D. Miles is the Organizing Director at the Texas Campaign for the Environment, where they lead statewide organizing efforts focused on building community power, advancing environmental justice, and developing grassroots leadership across Texas. Their work centers on expanding organizing beyond traditionally staffed regions by partnering with local organizations and frontline communities already fighting to protect their health, land, and water while advancing a just transition to renewable energy.
Lucius began their professional career in culinary arts and food service management before making a life-changing leap into political organizing in 2015, joining the Planned Parenthood Action Fund's campaign supporting Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign in Pennsylvania. While that election did not produce the desired outcome, it solidified their commitment to organizing and public service.
Over the next decade, Lucius built experience across labor, electoral, and issue-based organizing. They learned the fundamentals of labor organizing with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), served as a Regional Director on the independent expenditure campaign supporting Doug Jones' successful U.S. Senate campaign in Alabama, helped improve Census participation and reduce the undercount in Harris County, contributed to the election of Katie Hobbs as Governor of Arizona as a State Director for Labor Unions, and played a role in advancing gun violence prevention policy in Michigan.
Among their proudest accomplishments is their work at Texas Southern University, where they organized Student Government Association and the Delta Gamma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to register hundreds of students to vote and significantly increase civic engagement on campus. Their leadership helped launch initiatives such as Party to the Polls and contributed to bringing the She the People Presidential Forum and the first presidential debate hosted at a Historically Black College and University to Texas Southern University. That momentum ultimately helped secure an on-campus voting location, creating lasting access to the ballot for future generations of students.
Lucius joined the Texas Campaign for the Environment as Organizing Manager and quickly advanced to Interim Organizing Director. They have focused on strengthening the organization's grassroots organizing model, investing in frontline leadership, and building lasting partnerships with community organizations across Texas. Their vision is rooted in the belief that those most impacted by environmental injustice should be at the center of the solutions and that lasting change comes from communities organizing together to hold powerful interests accountable while creating a healthier, more sustainable future.
