Houston Field Organizer

Astra Nasr (they/them) is TCE’s Houston Field organizer, an activist, educator and proud kandaka (strong woman/person) dedicated to fighting for justice, human rights, and community empowerment with a deep love for history, music/arts and culture. Growing up between Dongola, Sudan and Giza, Egypt, they grew to understand the struggle for self-determination and a better world not as a political idea, but something deeply rooted in the hearts of people across the Global South. After immigrating to the US Gulf South, they saw those same struggles reflected through climate disasters and corporate greed, and the indomitable spirit of the people living in the Gulf South . Since then, they have been actively involved in all movements that challenge systemic oppression and amplify marginalized voices through direct action and education. Wherever the people are fighting for a better future, there they will be.

When they’re not organizing, they can be found collecting books on Pan-Africanism and resistance history, spending time with their spouse and dogs, or playing tabletop/video games with the sweeties of Houston.
